Fibromyalgia: Where Can I Find Help?

by Cinda Crawford

Fibromyalgia pointsThis is a big section for people with Fibromyalgia Syndrome because getting well is your main emphasis, above and beyond everything else, and you want to know, “Where can I find help?”

So, let’s get started. *If you can’t sit up long enough to read this online, feel free to request the pdf document here. Then you can save it to your computer, read it at your leisure and access the links that you want to know more about. You also may print a copy.

A) Most Rheumatologists’ (and some Internists’ and General Practice Physicians’) first course of treatment for Fibromyalgia Syndrome (a.k.a. FMS or “Fibro“) after the diagnostic exam is with suggestions that you try prescription medicines, lifestyle adjustment and possibly massage and/or physical therapy.

On occasion they may advise you to look into chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture or any type of alternative energy healing methods like Sacred Cellular Healing, SCH.

Why? Because not very many doctors give out such referrals or even hint that a patient should seek care that they do not readily or routinely recommend.

They do this because they were not taught in medical school that integrative medical care practices can provide safe and significant benefits to their patients. This appears to be true no matter whether the doctor attended medical school five years ago or fifty, although the situation is getting a tiny bit better as time goes by.

Except in a few instances, medicine hasn’t changed a great deal (yet) and certainly not enough. If asked, doctors will agree that integrative (e.g. complementary or alternative care) does exist and is out there “if you want to take the risk,” but their comfort level in recommending it to you is almost non-existent. Many of them have not personally tried any type of complementary care of this sort. On average their basic attitude towards this newer facet of the medical care industry is still as strict and regimental as ever.

That’s not only a shame for them, but often a disservice to you, their patient in need of  real help in dealing with a tough chronic illness.

Interestingly enough, if you want a referral to another traditional medical specialist, nine times out of ten your doctor will give it to you. If you want a shot or an operation, arranging any of those can happen, too.

And if you want prescription drugs, now those you easily can have those!

The only exception in ready availability is narcotic pain relieving drugs. Usually pain doctors will write those prescriptions on a longer term treatment basis, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get them at all. (You normally can if you seek out a pain doctor, too.)

These same doctors might even agree to give you pain shots, steroid shots, nerve blocks or combination treatments, etc., for unbearable, intractable pain. The problem is, if you really have Fibromyalgia and very little else going on, none of these methods tend to work very well or for long because they don’t get at the route of the problem of what is causing your Fibromyalgia!

B) Professionals who specialize in Fibromyalgia treatment in the United States (and sometimes beyond):

  1. Are often located in major population centers;
  2. Very few practice in more remote areas;
  3. Most are private pay and/or located in specialized clinics;
  4. The treatment costs are high because of the specialty care provided;
  5. If your insurance policy pays at all, it’s often very little because these types of charges are considered much higher than the usual and customary charges that the insurance company allows;
  6. In the end, you could end up with a big bill that you’re responsible for paying.

If what they do for you works quickly and you can afford it, this might be your best route to try. Some clinics have modest payment plans. However to date, Fibromyalgia is not routinely known to respond swiftly to traditional therapies or prescription medicines, as far as a cure is concerned. Multiple visits are often necessary to see any kind of improvement. Some people get better very quickly, however they can be the rare exception in a traditional medical setting.

If you enjoy a bit of symptom relief from the one of the new drugs on the market, ask yourself these questions:

Are you getting well?
Is your body really healing for the long term?

If you answer truthfully, you will realize that you’re not that well. You’re no where nearly well at all. These types of prescription drugs only mask your symptoms. You still have the symptoms unless you keep taking drugs… indefinitely! This type of prescription drug only covers up the problem as long as it’s still active in your body. If you quit taking the drug for any reason, the symptoms normally come rushing back and underneath you’re often in the same shape as when you began!

Add in the fact that a) the prescription drugs are expensive, b) the specialized doctor visits cost you a pretty penny out of pocket, too, and c) almost of these drugs can cause many, many unpleasant side effects and cross reactions -and- you have important reasons to make sure that proceeding in this direction is wise. Instead, shouldn’t you consider an alternative route?

You may be one of the people who chooses to self-medicate with neutraceuticals, health store or mail order vitamins and supplements. If you are an expert in that area or seek professional help and guidance, that is another way to go. With a bit of trial and error, it’s possible to enjoy a measure of success.

In most cases people do benefit from vitamin supplementation because our soil is so depleted of the vitamins and minerals that are critical to staying healthy, and because many people with Fibromyalgia have digestion and absorption problems, their body never gets full use of what they eat and drink. Think about it… if what you take in food-wise doesn’t get used and absorbed properly, no matter how much you eat, it won’t be enough to speed you on the road to getting well nor will it maintain the new, improved level of health that you seek!

So I ask you… how many prescription drugs or pills are enough? Are you one pill shy of getting relief or is the next pill one too many? Which products help and which ones are a total waste of your hard-earned money? When are you going to get tired of this approach and take a different route?

I can’t answer these questions for you. Yours is a very personal decision. But I can state with confidence that most people are capable of enjoying a substantial benefit after undergoing the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual healing of Sacred Cellular Healing (SCH) work. In going through the SCH protocol, I rarely suggest that people must take more supplements than good quality multivitamins, minerals and acidophilus-containing products.

I’m guessing that you need help now and you probably don’t want to pay a fortune to get it!

Today it’s wonderful that so many Fibro and Fatigue Centers, Inc. and private medical specialists exist. They are spread out across the United States.

So I ask you to ask yourself these questions:

  1. Is going that route your best course of action?
  2. Time-wise?
  3. Cost-wise?
  4. Future-wise?
  5. Would it be wise for you to explore more choices right now?

Pain and dysfunction don’t go away until you get rid of them for good. That exposed the root cause of my pain and the majority of the pain left immediately. It has not returned and I continue to heal in mind, body and spirit.
